wound tracker with colors

Hi guys!

I'm looking for a solution for our boardgame which is able to solve this:
Using only one object players can secretly vote for 4 colors and 9 numbers.
(Votes example: green-6, red-3, yellow-1, etc.)

Usage:
1. in voting phase players set up this object, and place it in the middle (face down, or into a bag).
2. they are shuffled and revealed so everyone sees the votes without knowing who was the owner of the voting objects.

Until now I found these options:
Using lot of cards (every player has all color cards 1-9)
Or less card + attached color tokens (and both put into a card sleeve)
Or some accessory "woundtracker" like I attached (but this needs a bag, as it is not shuffleable).

If you have any other nice and cheap solution, pls share.
Thanks,
Mate

Use 1 Poker Card per player. They use a Black Dry-Erase Marker (pen) and write their color "B"lue, "R"ed, "G"reen and "Y"ellow. Next to it they write their value between 1 and 9.

Cards are place in the middle and one player shuffles the cards and then reveals them (the color and values chosen).

All it really requires is UV Coated cards or "card sleeves" on which you can write and then ERASE with a tissue paper (Kleenex). Those cards cost $0.09 each, 1 Dry-Erase Pen is about $1.00 each and you could share one pen...

This solution requires the MAX number of player (in terms of cards so like 4 if it's at most a 4 Player game, etc.)

That's the least expensive solution I can find. Cheers.

Writing leaves it open to

Writing leaves it open to handwriting issues..

I'd say a deck of custom cards works pretty well.. it'll avoid the need for a bag both as a component you have to pay for and as a mechanic. 52 cards, and you could use "mini" cards to save money/space/weight.

If this is a repeating mechanic, not a one-time thing, how do people get back the cards/tokens/items they used to vote, though? That's a hole.

So... maybe you'll need something else.

A version of the dry-erase thing would be a few custom cards with check boxes on them, and you fill in the little squares for your vote.

The wound-tracker solution wouldn't require a bag if they can be placed upside-down and just mixed up on the table.

You've got to be kidding me!

Really??? Writing a "r" or a "b" or a "g" or a "y" ... can lead to interpretation issues?? OR number 1 to 9 are also difficult to read?

I agree that it's not "perfect" but... It cost a fraction of the price of a 52 card deck. That's normally around $5.00 to $6.00. My solution is about $2.00 in terms of cost... That's a saving of $3.00 appx.

The OP was asking for a LESS "expensive" solution.

I think this is the "least" expensive solution presented so-far... I double checked a 52 Mini card deck at "The Game Crafter" (TGC) is $5.78. Exactly in the price range I predicted.

HECK ... If you find it HARD to WRITE... Instead of having a BLANK poker card, DESIGN a card with all the options:

Red [   ] Green [   ] Blue [   ] Yellow [   ]

1 [   ] 2 [   ] 3 [   ]

4 [   ] 5 [   ] 6 [   ]

7 [   ] 8 [   ] 9 [   ]

Or something similar (the "[   ]" brackets mean a CHECKBOX). That would remedy any and all "supposed" handwriting issues...

No, but I can sure as hell tell who wrote what in my family, for a supposedly secret vote.

Very good point... Hadn't thought of the handwriting giving away the SECRECY of the vote! That's a very GOOD, maybe GREAT point! Using a card format with "checkboxes" (or circles may be better) where you universally just darken the area of your choice (Color + Number), is probably more secretive...

But making your point! It might be possible to determine the owner of a card from HOW they "darkened" the card... From like you say "handwriting"! But a circle and you "darken" it ... might prove to be more difficult to pin-point the exact owner of each card...

I'm still AMAZED at that aspect (the revealing the owner of each card)... That is freaken "sneaky" and "brilliant" at the same time. See I would have never thought of that, since I don't try to predict people's moves while playing games. Which makes it hard to win at things like Chess, etc.

Anyhow ... excellent point!

Cubes in a bag

I know it is a lot more then 1 component but can players just add the appropriate color/number of cubes to a bag? You could cut down on pieces by having a large that would rpesent 5 cubes. You may need some type of shield for the unused cubes as well.

I was thinking tiles from Scrabble or Mahjongg as well as the tile racks from those same games.

I do second the "fill in the dots" dry-erase marker option, personally. The tile and bag method would likely be expensive in comparison.

Cardboard piece with a slider?

Could you use a piece of cardboard with a slider? You could have all of the numbers printed out four times with an indicator of the color. Sorry thought of this after my last suggestion.

I've never priced that from a manufacturer, but I feel pretty confident that it's under $0.25 (maybe more like $0.10) in 1000-unit quantities as part of a product..

Dual dial

Similar to the slider solution you could use duals dials. There are some at the game crafter:https://www.thegamecrafter.com/publish/product/DualDial

In the blood bowl fantasy

In the blood bowl fantasy manager game (think that's what it is called) by fantasy flight, each player has a double dial for points.

This is reusable, easy to create for testing (card and split pins).

Or what about a way of placing two dice together (one colour one number), in some sort of small container so only the top sides show. All dice can be the same.
