So, I've just finished putting together this prototype magnetic game board in the shape of a toroid, or for the laymen here, a donut type shape kind of thing. I have some very vague ideas about what I want to do with it, but I was curious if anyone here wanted the 3D printing files to play around with, or if anyone was interested in other weirdly shaped game boards.
Attached are a few pictures of it and a stand I made for it to be used during rest periods of play. For those curious, there are 8 spaces along the inside, 12 on both the top and bottom, and 16 spaces around the outside. It's meant to be picked up and turned over during play, and the spaces wrap around the whole board.
Thank you for the vote of confidence :) I would still want to playtest it and get something truly interesting, myself, but I figure it would be really awesome to see other game designers branching out from flat, often square 2D boards, kind of like how we're seeing more physical games see some success, or at least acclaim.
As a matter of fact, if anyone is interested, I would absolutely love to do a board commission or two :D Although I doubt many people would see fit to use this kind of geometry - It's a little difficult to do anything complicated with it, after all.
