Hi everyone, I'm new here and just getting into the field of Game Design. It definetly seems like an exciting place to be and I really like this site so far.

Anyways, I was curious if anyone has read the book "The Art of Game Design" by Jesse Schell? I just picked it up from Borders today and it is a lengthy book, not to mention pricey. I grabbed it because I'm away for the weekend and I had heard this book was good and it wasn't available at stores near me. My main question about the book is this... Is the book mainly about video game design? From the cover I saw a pawn piece which made me think it was for board games, but after reading the beginning of the book, I am wondering if it has to deal alot with video game design, which I don't really care to learn right now. If anyone has any advice if it's a good book to keep or if it won't really help with board game design, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Bob Jacobsen

it's aimed at video game

it's aimed at video game designers but useful by board game designers too. there are several books like that (game design workshop, challenges for game designers, etc). that's because there's FAR more literature on video game design specifically than board game design, so the ones that just overlap are still worth reading, because the field is so small.

It's an excellent book

It's an excellent book, I read it and I made a summary of every chapter here:
