hey all, i have an agreement with an artist to produce the art for my game. does anyone have a standard contract that i can copy? (we have agreed on a flat price.) thanks!
contract
You'll want to search the web for a standard "work for hire" contract. You want to make sure that a) you actually own the images produced and b) that in the case of cost overruns or other disagreements that you are protected in some fashion.
I'm not sure where the contract we use for outside artists is or I'd post it to the site, but it's very standard stuff. It's all legalese, but nothing that you can't handle if you play games!
I Googled "contract example work-for-hire" and got these results:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&q=contract+examp...
The first result has a sample work-for-hire contract:

There are several other examples, if you follow the other results.
Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer. I'm not vouching for the contracts you may find. I'm just a guy on the internet who knows how to use Google.
Dude,
I have a simple contract that was sent to me by an artist that I will be happy to send you a copy of [it is in pdf form - so you would have to retype it all] if you'll email me directly:
- and that goes for any of you other yahoos as well. It's very simple, you'll just have to retype and replace the references that list the artist and myself. It is his standard contract that he uses and I found it very to the point. The project that he was going to help me with didn't pan out as he got a PAYING GIG that covered his bills for a year... so he left me.... *snif*
But I understood - I told him go for it! Paying customers come first and all that. :-)
