Not perfect - but optimal. I haven't been following your game idea, but I see what you are going for. The main problem with this setup is that for more than 3 players, some players are much farther from each other than others. If you are using terrain types to assist/impede movement or sighting, you could mitigate this problem by having your "fast" or "non-sight-blocking" terrain concentrated at the center of the map.
