designing games for android? i have a great idea, thats more of a marketing ploy. before launching a really useful ap that will probably make money. if you are interested in collaborating pm or post to this thread. thx
does anyone here have experience
I have a nephew, but is this a situation where you are actually hiring a designer who gets paid money upfront, or is it one of those "You provide the labor, I provide the Vision" schemes where the designer gets 50% of the unlikely profit for doing 99% of the work? If it's the latter, I can tell you that most competent designers turn down these offers on a regular basis. Good design work is a premium commodity. Great ideas are a dime a dozen.
Yeah, I have experience but its as he said above. 99% of games don't make money. Even the vast majority of AAA games end up losing money.
Working for "Potential Profit" isn't something that anyone in the field can really afford to do. It's slightly better received than "Work for exposure", but it's generally frowned upon.
There's been some undervaluing of professional work in the field and alot of people are very touchy about not getting paid up front and paid well.
It's POSSIBLE that if you put the idea out in public you might get some people fired up enough to help in their free time, but it's still a long shot.
Even with ARTWORK for cards used in a game, most artists want to be paid upfront for their artwork...
That's why I need to Kickstart my game "Tradewars - Homeworld".
What I have done is ADVANCE money for some "preliminary artwork". So I have paid my artist for about 10 pieces of artwork (so I have invested $1,000). It may be small, but my artists understands that the goal of said artwork is to look very professional such that we can FUND all of the remaining artwork.
I wish I could afford to pay the artwork myself - I won't make that mistake twice... We want to make sure there is a following for the game FIRST and then make sure to fund the artwork next (given sufficient backers).
I find just trying to convince a few designers to "collaborate" on one project is near impossible. Everyone is busy with their own designs and life outside which takes up most of everyone's time. The hobby designers on this board only have a limited amount of spare time to spend on designing - and they like to pursue their own designs.
thanks for the feedback guys!
