Hey there, I’m ED.
I’m a southern gentleman of 25 Autumns and my line of work is a jack of all trades freelancer and a master of none.
One can say I’m the local eccentric with a mighty appetite for creation with an equally sprawling imagination that I’ve been reluctant to utilize into until now. I’ve been flying under the radar for some time as it were.
Since I was 12 I’ve been playing board/miniatures games of various themes and flavors from the classic Monopoly to the highly detailed Battletech series and played many more. As I got older the habitual tendencies of being a mid-teen stoked the fires of a rebellious nature kindled the ambition to make games of my own design and I’ve been working on concepts till this day with most never seeing the light of day unfortunately.
I’ve gone through many trials from trivial modifications of existing Games Workshop designs to more grand ideas which were merely the metamorphosis of combining two sometimes three different mechanics into a single entity, both with less than desirable results. Admittedly these undertakings were never taken seriously, just glorified musings.
I wanted something more! I wanted something that could stand out among the rest. Everyday I’m beginning to see this is becoming a next to near impossible endeavor until a few years ago. I really believe I’m onto something not incredibly unique but remarkably intuitive with the encouragement of venues such as Kickstarter; I want to make this dream into a reality.
I like to use this forum to gain some much needed insight on what needs to be polished, what I should and shouldn’t be done and above all get recommendations from far more experienced designers who’ve actually put their games to market before I put my metaphorical battleship to sea.
I shoot low but aim high. Who knows, I may just have stumbled across the Warhammer killer!
Just a wild dream I guess, I won’t know until I ram the lever full steam ahead to either ram bow first to an iceberg or onto a sea of greatness. Time will tell.
A lengthy introduction aside I'm glad to be here. Nice to meet you, hope you'll keep me. (ADD Moment: I was this close to do a Rolling Stones song reference there...)
Feels like I jumped aboard the whole game designing banwagon a little late though. So many people have jumped onto this already and there will be too much of a game design overload soon. I feel the only way to stand apart from the others is unique factor which doesn't make things easier.
Does anyone share the same sentiments?
