Greetings all
It looks like I stumbled across a great hobby.
I am an artist and a writer and a retired engineer who can make/has made all sorts of things large and small.
Now it looks like I can weave some of that together to make games, sort of like useable art with icons.
I decided to make some Ned Kelly (infamous Australian iron outlaw circa 1880) chess men cast in pewter and then I decided plain old chess was not good enough for my Ned. Then I found all the variant chess games and progressively my new game became a passion and here I am.
I always need help but I give it freely too.
My game "Ned Kelly and the Snipers" (or something like that)
Is a Chess Variant and a game of chance and it has 3 players and it is has role and rule changes and handicapping built in.
The difficult bit is uncomplicating it.
So I am out to get as much advice as I can.
Ps I have no idea what "split summary at cursor" means so I have not got far without a mystery to be solved.
Thanks that would be great.
In the first tier (Earth board) the idea is to lose so you can get to the second tier (Ghost board).
Roles
1. Ned Kelly’s object on the Ghost board is to “bail-up” (rob) then escape with the booty without being captured.
2. The King’s object is to capture Ned (checkmate)
3. Charlie Yet Foy is Chinese from the Ballarat Gold Rush, Charlie stays on the ghost board and drives the Cobb and Co coach and acts as banker and handicapper. Charlie adjudicates on all discrepancies and disputes.
Pieces
King, Queen, 2 Knights, 2 Rooks and 6 pawns (pawns move one square at a time)
Ned Kelly, Joe Byrne, 2 Cockatoo, 2 Pistol and 6 bullets (moves and powers as above)
Cobb and Co coach moves 3 squares like a rook or a Knight and starts anywhere.
The Sniper (handicap piece for Ghost board) is allocated by Charlie for: side, position and powers to even up players with differing abilities.
2 Dice standard 6 sided 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Playing order
Ned starts then each turn Ned and the King have 2 moves each.
The Coach only moves when he is being robbed.
Earth Board
The game starts with a game of losing chess.
Capturing moves are mandatory and the object is to lose all one's pieces. There is no check – the king is captured like an ordinary piece. The lost pieces go to the ghost board in their starting positions and can commence play immediately.
Size
6 x 6 = 36 squares
Ghost board
Ned can only escape from the 4 corner squares.
Size = 6 x 6 = 36 squares.
Featured squares = 12 (they are robbed when Ned’s men move onto them)
Dice
The amount of booty is decided by dice.
