I am a middle school technology teacher in western North Carolina. This is now my fifth year teaching game design to my 8th graders, but I have never gone extensively into board game design at the beginning of the course. This is my first year to really dive into that! We have normally stuck with computer-based game design from the start, so I'm in new territory this year with my foundations. I hope I can learn a lot and maybe contribute some useful ideas as well.
Personally, my daughter and sons and I have invented some games together over the years, but I have never formally approached it from the designer mindset. Everything we've always come up with has just been of the impromptu variety, and we've come back to what sticks and have dumped what didn't. I always let them drive that bus and have served as more of a happy dad playing along than anything else.
So I'm excited to start looking at board game design now with more of my designer's background in play (I came from private industry graphic design, web design, and software testing prior to coming to technology teaching ten years ago). I look forward to figuring all this out!!
