Hello everyone. Lured here by a recent re-discovery of my love of board games and an interest in designing some, I decided to make an account and participate in this community.
I currently play in a couple of board games groups and am playing at least one new game each week. Bitten by the creative bug, I've started making a game for my local group to play.
At its core it is a space racing game. The game starts a couple of weeks before the race starts, and players can use this time to secure sponsorship deals and acquire upgrades for their ship, additional pilot training, bribe race officials, etc. At the end of this time they then fit their ship with any upgrades, etc, they acquired and line up for the race.
The racecourse itself is generated using tiles, with the start/finish and three checkpoint tiles making up the corners of the map. Each tile has a different number of spaces on them, making some quicker to traverse than others. Some of the tiles will contain hazards (asteroid fields, etc) or may even be impassable (black hole). Players can fire upon one another, but it is meant to be a race and any racer that destroys another racer gets disqualified.
That's the basic premise anyway. I've tried to find any existing games that I may be stepping on the toes of but have not found any. If anyone thinks that my concept sounds similar to an existing game, please could they let me know?
I'm looking forward to being a part of this community, not only to get some help with my ideas but also to help others with theirs.
