Greetings game designers.
My name is Seth, and I have just started working on my first game. I am a graduate student in marine ecology, but my real interest is in informal (outside of the classroom) education. I hope to use my games to teach people various concepts in biology, ecology, conservation, etc. I have a few ideas that will be great for classroom aides, and others that should appeal to experienced gamers. If a player walks away from one of my games having learned something, then I've done my job.
I stated playing games when I was about 5 or 6. In those days Mousetrap was my absolute favorite, so it's maybe no surprise that I like games with lots of bits (thanks Fantasy Flight). I've since gotten into just about every genre of gaming out there (CCGs, boardgames, miniatures games, RPGs) thanks to a 40% employee discount at a game store. These days I mostly stick to board games, as grad school demands most of my time (and has killed my disposable income).
Looking forward to getting to know this community, and working with you to make some great games!
Thanks Joe. I'm a total noob at creating games (just started my first ever), but I'll contribute where I can.
I'm currently working on a game about nature preserves/parks that will demonstrate some basic principles of ecology. I have a lot more ideas, but I need to focus on just one for now.
