Hi all. Thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself.
I'm relatively new to board game design - I decided to set myself the challenge of designing and making one whilst I was on maternity leave (with a little help from my husband and a friend).
I live in the UK and have a 9m old daughter. I just started back at work full time so any suggestions of concise articles that would be useful for me to read would be much appreciated! I'm at the playtesting and refining stage but have based most of what I've done on my own personal experience of playing games and gut instinct!
I think I've got the mechanics and most of the balancing for my game sorted: it's a cooperative sci-fi strategy game with set collection and resource management. It is played across 2 boards and caters for 1-4 players.
I've taken inspiration from pandemic, eldritch horror and battlestar galactica to name but a few.
I'm also taking it to the UK Game Expo next month for playtesting if anyone is interested and I'd specifically appreciate any advice regarding playtesting.
Thanks for reading and TIA for any advice!
btw, I've just started a facebook page to show graphics and updates - you can find it here: www.facebook.com/themaidenvoyagebg
Thanks Rob - some very useful links. I've bought the book and hope I can fit some reading around getting my daughter to sleep in the evenings!
Hopefully see you at UKGE! I'm at a bit of a loose end on Sat morning (hubby is taking part in the Memoir '44 contest) so perhaps I can help play test your game! My official play test session is Saturday afternoon.
