Hi everyone,
The name's humanehero, and I live about an hour south of Boston, MA. I didn't really get into making games until a little while ago, but my current project really has me in its grips. In fact, up until a few years ago, I had never played any board/card games other than the standard Monopoly, Life, etc and MtG. I started playing D&D a few years ago and from there went into Munchkin, then Bang and a few others. I still haven't played a lot, but I've enjoyed what I have played.
Over the last month, I feel like I've come a pretty long way the game I'm working on. I was working on a story for a few months and decided that I wanted a card game for the characters to play. Well, the story fell to the wayside (temporarily), and the card game really has me. I wanted it to be like the deck of cards we have in the real world. That is, I wanted it to be ubiquitous within the fantasy world I was making and be multi-purpose.
I have a 135 card deck right now and rules for 5 different games to be played with it, ranging from solitaire to some more complex stuff. I've solo tested all the games and had some friends play them, but I haven't had a real dedicated play test for it, as I can't really find a group. I'm hoping to change that here.
Thanks!
Yeah, right now, there are 4 suits (Musicians, Tradesmen, Politicians, and Clergymen), and each suit is ranked 3-10 with the higher numbers being more important people in those fields. There's also a set of special cards, but every card is a role or a person in the world.
I hadn't thought about making the cards special in terms of thickness or anything, but I like the idea. I'll have to look into what cards may have looked like around the time period that my story is mimicking. I'm sure it'd be more expensive to make cards that vary from the standard poker sized set, but I wonder if it would be worth it to make them really stand out.
