Hey Guy it's nice to meet all of you pretty new to Boardgame designing and developing and so I was told if you are interested in designing a boardgame then you should check out BGDF so here I am :D

Anyway abit about me My name is Chris but on Youtube and other Forums I go by Kage, I am a Freelancing 2D/3D Animator/Artist that has done various tasks such as T-shirt Designs, Children's book illustrations and Level developer for App games, and so I had abit of free time on my hands and decided to invent a board game and start a Kickstarter called 'Quest'.

Quest is basically a Fantasy board games with elements of Deck Building and Roleplay, where players must select a Story(Campaign) and Character(Class) and go on a journey in which the Story has been set up to make you undergo certain tasks such as collecting loot, saving cities, discovering tombs and defeating bad guys all of these give you Quest Points which by the end of the game the player with the most Quest Points wins.

Pretty much its a simplified version of Dungeons and Dragons if you want to check it out go to https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/630747205/quest-the-fantasy-board-game I would appreciate some advice on how to improve the game

Game confusion

I too designed a game called "Quest" but suffixed it with "Adventure Cards". And so it is "Quest AC" (for short) or "Quest Adventure Cards(tm)" (long version).

I go by the alias of "QuestCCG" because the game was supposed to be a CCG before I learned that the CCG business is impossible to break into... Anyhow you learn from doing not by doing nothing...!

Another note, is like the above link - there are TONS of games mimicking the RPG genre using heroes and classes, going on quests, etc. It's been done - and overly done before. Don't let that discourage you... Try to find a unique *twist* to your game!

The first problem is that you don't ask for advice on how to improve the game after launching the KS. You've put the cart before the horse. Also, a slew of Power Point panels? Is this a game for septuagenarian business executives?

Second, the game you are describing is essentially "Descent" by FFG. Although your game may be different, FFG delivers the same quintessential experience with excellent miniatures and high quality components for $40 less than what you are charging. That is one of many, many games doing the same.

Lastly, you do not ballpark production costs based on what other KS projects were doing. Nobody in their right mind is going to back a project where the creator hasn't researched their production costs and doesn't have a firm business plan in place. You have no idea what you are doing. People are used to getting 50 to 100 miniatures with a $120 game, seeing prototypes, qualifications, and maybe even then getting screwed over.

I have never done a

I have never done a kickstarter myself, but I can give 1 word of advice as someone who backs people on kickstarter. Make your campaign look as professional as possible. This would include...
- Remove the powerpoints and consolidate that section
- Check for typos and grammar
- I would avoid putting anything in the risks/challenges area

The cost also seems extremely high. Have you looked into how much it would cost to mass produce this game? Unless you already have a big following, I think it's going to be hard to get backers at that price. It's all about supply and demand. I have seen very successful kickstarter campaigns that sell games at that price, but you have to have people knocking at your door in that situation.

Thank you so much this is what I wanted to hear It has been annoying to say the least the comments I have gotten they have said similar things but you guys have been positive in your critiques while others have been lets say harsher, anyway I will go and change the problems might have to do a complete makeover on my Kickstarter, So thanks again guys :D

Kickstarter videos need to come off as self-reassuring such that the people who are going to back this project are paying someone who will successfully develop the game idea...

The other thing is people usually don't back an "IDEA". They back a game that has ALREADY been fully developed but needs money for artwork or an initial production run (again all things you should have solid numbers for).

I know some people think they can sell "ideas" on Kickstarter - but it's not that easy. People can tell the difference between a game that has been prototyped and one that is just an idea. For an example, my current WIP is two (2) years in the making. We have been having it playtested around the USA. It has been through 13 Alphas and 1 Beta revision.

Take your time in developing your idea into an actual game. Your Powerpoint is just the tip of the iceberg. You need to invest time in fully developing the ideas you have into a prototype. Then when you have a prototype, it becomes time to coach some playtests with people you know.

It seems like you are rushing things... They take time and you need to invest that time in developing them. If you do, you may find success. If you don't, it is highly unlikely that you will succeed.

Again, not to discourage you, perhaps to show you what lies ahead if you continue to further develop your idea!
