Hello,i am from Greece and i LOVE board games. Recently i came up with and idea for a board game, and when searching for information about designing and publishing etc. this site came up in bgg.So here i am.I dont even know if the game gonna work out,im like 70% ready, need to finish some cards and "polish" some last rules and its ready to playtest. It took me like 1-2 months of daily thinking about it and passing over obstacles to make it work, but i see people say that some take 1-2 or more years. So its like my board game is a fail already if you think its fast progress.Anyway i will send in 1-2 weeks my idea to a publishing company to see what they will say.Maybe im over myself for even sending it to the company but who knows... so if anyone wanna share some thoughts or some tips about the publishing or creating a game road, are more than welcome.Thank you for having me here :)
Hey im brand new!
Welcome.
The time you needed to think about your game says nothing about its quality. I have fnished a simply 'learn math' card game for children in less than a week and the people playing it enjoyed it. So no worries there.
I would however suggest that you postpone the presentation of your game to a publisher. You already said that it is almost ready for some playtesting. Why don't you wait and see what the playtesters have to say about it? They might find some problems with the game that you haven't thought of. I mean that is the whole point of playtesting: find unkown problems, repair the game, work on the rules and polish the gameplay and then you may pitch it to a publisher. Otherwise you take the risk that the game might be rejected because it still has some problems that could have easily been fixed if you had tested it.
Just my two cents.
Yeah i thought of that too,so i give a better and almost complete image of the final product me and the people tested it would like to see.I was thinking of sending it so soon cause they told me:send us a summary so we get the idea or the rules if you have them at some point. So like to check the idea out,but i think i will go with your advice, test it with a variety of people and give a more complete product.Thx for sharing your opinion :)
