I'm new to the forum. I joined because I've had this great Idea for a table top game for a few yeas and I'm looking for help to see it come to life and this looked to be the best place to do that. I look forward getting to know you guys and to sharing ideas with everyone.

Nice to meet you man, good to see that you are already on the table top front - I am heading to check it out now :)

Just an aside: Make sure you have read the recent "Are CCG's cool or not?" or "collectable or not collactable" threads that have crept up in the last few weeks - a very good read and a good set of ideas to take

tl;dr - nowadays, it's probably best to head for a straight boardgame, not ccg (and sometimes even: not lcg)

I appreciate it. I looked over the forum and I don't know if there is a generation gap or something but where I grew up and people I've met getting older it seems like everyone has a closet obsession with card games. I just hope my game will bring many of those people out lol

My pleasure man,

Card games : totally agree - but Collectible Card Games (Pokemon, yugioh, magic, blue moon, vampires etc) not sure so much - you need a rediculous marketing budget to get enough people on to your CCG as is required to have an active and dynamic community, which is one of the main (some say only) reasons that certain CCGs do well in.

So card game = yes
Collectible (boosters etc) card game = think about it a lot

Tell us more about it man! :)

Yeah I agree. I went to school for marketing and I am a freelance Social Media Marketer so hopefully my educational background can help give this game some much needed popularity.

Zodiak is a game that combines the play style of chess with the speed of card games. Each player starts off the a team of 7 Units (1 Hero, 2 Paladin, 2 Monk, 2 Guard) and a 30 card enchantment deck which will help them to make the game more exciting. You must utilize both these things to destroy your opponent's Hero and claim victory.

Right now we are play testing it, using a really simplified design. In march we have a few people who will blind test it for us (which I may record and upload for everyone to see). Once I feel comfortable enough with the game's direction I plan to put it on kickstarter.com to help earn it money so we can go into self publication until we can find a company interested in taking Zodiak to the next level.

Ok man, that sounds cool Chess Tactics + CCG mechanics - interesting :)

I'm glad you have an appropriate record man, that is super important in all boardgames let alone ccg's - I think mroe than perhaps some realise nowadays.

Have you read all of the interesting articles ad what not about kickstarter at BGG, here and purplepawn.com ? There is literally reems of text on the subject. ALL of it relevant! haha!

And we are in a brilliant situation with kickstarter currently -in a few years time, I am not sure of the meta will change: Perhaps it will be inundated with so-so games and as such lose popularity? Perhaps some big publishers will get on board educing the money-pot for the rest of us? There might be a big case in which someone doesn't provide the goods and everyone gets angry, OR it might keep increasing in size and get better and better! With your background, I am sure you know the kind of thing I'm talking about :)

Again, you proabably already entirely know this (teaching to suck eggs and what not) but I would wholeheartedly reccomend gathering the fans before going to kickstarter - it has been the main factor in kickstatrter siuccess so far. I am grateful to have marketed for Steve from EPG games on his kickstater campaign of Gunship: First Strike which is going well at the moment , and still feel that pre-fans is the best way to get to your end point.

Finding Fans

I'll def check out the articles now thanks for the tip.

I agree I will definitely do my best to build a strong following for Zodiak before putting it on Kickstarter. We are building the Zodiak website and that should go up sometime this week or next as well as a facebook page. Do you have any tips on where to find some potential fans?
