Hello all,
I've always had a creative streak and have only recently (6 months ago) discovered the amazing world of strategy board games. Before that, Risk 2210 was probably the closest I've been to the world of Dominant Species, Eclipse, and so on. Now I'm hooked. In my new gaming group I'm known to read and memorize the rules to games I haven't played yet, just so I'll be ready if it comes to the table.
At this point, after my full-tilt immersion into the hobby, I feel I can start contributing; I'm a writer (newspaper field and 1 self-published novel) and a graphic designer, and think I can develop a lot of my great ideas into fun and strategic games (don't we all).
Seeing BGDF's collaborative forums on discussing mechanics, themes, and everything else made me see what a great community this is, and looking at past design contests has already got my creativity going into overdrive.
Right now I have a few ideas I'm working on:
- a space pirate game (inspirations: Letters From Whitechapel, Merchant of Venus, Galaxy Trucker) at v.1 prototype phase.
- a "spreading/clashing of ideologies" (e.g. missionaries) game (inspirations: Pandemic, Plauge Inc., Dominant Species) that's stalled at the intersection of mechanics vs. theme.
- an exploration game for the Map Builder Design Challenge here, at the early design phase.
- a dice/placement game (inspirations: Alien Frontiers, Kingsburg) at the early design phase.
My challenge will be to focus, and I hope joining this forum will add greatly to my output (and hope I can help others as well). Well, that was longer than I thought it would be. Thanks for reading!
