Hello,
My name is Max Jamelli. SigTauLefty is my BGG username, so I figured it would work here too. I'll tell you a little about myself and why I'm here.
I'm a second generation gamer. My father grew up a grognard - playing war games via snail mail with Don Greenwood. I was always in awe of the games he would play on our kitchen table. They just seemed bigger and more important than the games my sister and I would play. My father took me to some game conventions growing up, but it wasn't until 1996 that I really got into the hobby with my dad and his friends.
Fast forward a little to WBC week 2010. My friend Terry told me I should test his new tennis game. I played it and enjoyed it - but told him that the next year he would have to try the game my father invented. You see, my dad kept telling me that he had this idea for a board game based on the economics of baseball. I figured we could get a prototype together in a year, so the race was on for us. It started that September as I told my dad to start drafting his rules. I couldn't help too much because I was student teaching. That December I was able to start looking at what he had done and started to help. When I got into the project, things were added/edited/subtracted. We were able to get a couple test games in before WBC week and shaped the game into something we thought was playable.
We got a lot of interest in the game - from players and potential publishers alike. We also got some great feedback on it as well. I created a BGG page for our game - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/97155/lords-of-baseball
We've had our prototype with a few different publishers - one currently looking at it now hasn't had a chance to playtest it yet (but is hoping to after the new year). I consider our biggest challenge our learning curve. It is a fairly complex game (I'd rank it an 8.5/10 in terms of complexity) but my father and I consider that a good thing. It's probably a bit fiddly for someone playing it for the first time (especially the off-seasons) but the in season game play is rather straight forward.
I look forward to sharing some of this game here and also my other designs which I'm brainstorming/prototyping.
