Hello board game designers! My name is Mitch and I have just started on the path of glory(some call it the path of board game design). Coming up with ideas for games is not exactly new for me, but actually setting things in motion is something that I decided needs to happen. So far I did my first play test with a friend that is sort of partnering this project with me, and a couple other friends. I am worried I started play testing too soon. The rules and ideas seemed pretty straight forward, though obviously not complete or perfect by any means. My two other friends could not get past the fact that the beginning of the game seemed very static. They didn't seem to have any good ideas, they just kept asking the same questions and couldn't let the game progress, just to see what worked throughout the whole thing and what didn't. Questions at first like "why do I want to play this game" and "What is the theme for this action" seem too early. How do I find people I can trust to help? Am I going about this the right way? Should I even describe the game on this site? Is my left leg really longer than my right? So many unanswered questions after my first play test....

It's never too early to play
It's never too early to play test. You need every kind of experience to go forward with the project.
Sounds like your crew is not the target audience of the game when those types of questions come out. You could always make the game more to their liking if it suits your original intent, but sometimes too simple/deep mechanics might break the overall vision.
The one thing that would be the most "worrying" is the static start. The number one thing about keeping the players interested is giving them choices in everything they do.
Thanks for the quick reply. I will have more details about the game soon so people can get a feel for it.
