Hello,

I just joined. I have a game that I have been working on for years now and think it is ready for release. I agonized over patenting it and all that for ages and then decided just to release it here and make it available for anyone to enjoy and produce. Game design isn't my usual thing to be working on, but I think it is an excellent game. My usual work is attempting to get established as a cartoonist and also I get involved in lots of political issues in this world, but the game is just for fun - no politics, if that is possible.

I will put the game into the forum soon.

Rule number 1 of Game Design "Don't Patent Anything!!!!!" You have access to free copyrights just by posting about your game online, talking about it in forums, and purchasing a domain name.

publishing companies hate patents because it means they'll need to defend your shit in court all the time and you'll have spent so much money on something that has an easy work around. Don't believe me? Look up "Tapping"

Truth is you having an idea for a game and being able to draw puts you ahead of 90% of everyone on this forum! You're like the Tyler Perry of board game design right now! Don't pass it up! Go my son, believe in your game! It might not make you rich but it's your brain baby and you should be the one who raises it!

Patency ?

Yes Jed (Zoka),
Generally copyright is sufficient protection. If you had a particular three dimensional physical playing part or device included as part of your game that was innovative then that may be something you would seek patency protection for otherwise you wouldn’t bother.
