Here is a sample hex tile. What I have done is add the "Flame" clan to the picture... By adding clan-specific information, the players can bring their own to a game. Say something like a rule according to the size of the tabletop space. So maybe 30 for 2 players (15 each) might be a good starting point.
I believe this could also can encourage the proliferation of the tiles. It definitely makes collecting more appealing. You could mix and match specific tiles for a clan and non-specific ones.

Little more flare
I spruced up the tile with a public domain image... Not that it really makes a big difference - just to add a little more flare.
Not unlike trading cards
Well tiles are not exactly the same as "trading cards". However they could be sold on a per-unit basis. If you have clans, colors and effects you could potentially have the start of something interesting.
Obviously they don't need to be cheap, they could be of proper quality. I believe I have seen quality made hex tiles at a game demo I attended with a small group of designers.
