Plan Your Kickstarter Stretch Goals

The Game Crafter - The Leading Print On Demand Game Publisher

Introduction: The Game Crafter is running a series of articles about "How To Run A Kickstarter" on our blog that will eventually be consolidated into a guide we publish for game designers.

In our last article we told you to do the math before you start your campaign. This time we’re talking about stretch goals which will make your math more complicated.

Make no mistake, you should plan your stretch goals well in advance of the launch of your campaign, and build the cost of them into your budget. Don’t scramble to come up with them during the campaign. If you do, at the very least you’ll stress yourself out. At worst, you could bankrupt yourself by rushed planning. With that in mind, here’s some advice for figuring out stretch goals.

I've read the blog entries and there are a few incentives mentioned therein that let the reader know of selling points for using The Game Crafter:

  • Custom wooden pieces added to TGC stock if order exceeds like 10,000 pieces (they cite a specific game where they've done that before)
  • No-cost tuckbox upgrades for 200+ units
  • details of the TGC bulk-order-fulfillment service (BOF)

I'm not what I would consider a die-hard TGC fanboy, but after reading I've certainly been inspired to 'do the math' on one of my own strong game designs.

It's my assumption any publisher would be going through the math when determining if a game is cost effective. I'd imagine that doing the math for the publisher (TGC or otherwise) not only tightens your own game design, but also makes it easier for them to push the 'yes' button for you.

Imagine if you had 10 stretch goals planned out, and all the COGs calculations lined up already, with your submission to a publisher...That's one heck of a selling point, eh?

I have a few game ideas I might try using the game crafters. But if like you said I could "upgrade" my game as a kick starter project and let the game crafters handle the production or anything else, then that could be nice.

It would just smooth the process of going from print on demand to crowdfunding.

@larienna ~ Easier than what? We already do quite a bit to make it easier to use Kickstarter through us than without us.

I don't know the details behind making a kick starter campaign, let say reduce or simplify the "Administrative Tasks" behind launching a kickstarter project.

Without the game crafters, I would need to find a manufacture, a distributor, etc.
