Thought I already had commented on your game! Geez, even cut the cards and all..
Sounds like a fun "TAKE-THAT" card game. The multiple victory conditions is something that should be in more games. I like them but obviously it can be unfair in some case. A player could start with all 4 maidens, or even just 3. Giving him a big chance to win easily just by luck of the draw.
One thing bothering me though is that all the rules are on the cards! This can be overwhelming for the first few games. It's always a bit "fiddly" too.
Jeff got you thinking in a more "euro" way. I think picking a few mechanics of that style while keeping the "fun & quick card game" part will make for a truly unique game. Good luck.
Skepticism is a good thing.
I'll take this opportunity to post an update on the game. Taking some of the posts to heart I have begun reworking the game. I'm keeping most of the same elements but now I'm mkaing the game into more of a race between the plays, each of whom plays one of the heoric characters (Knight, Wizard, Squire, and Thief) who are trying to defeat the dragon by stealing treasure, saving maidens, or if they are lucky, slaying the dragon. The dragon is now played automatically (there are still 4 dragons to choose from at the start of the game) by turning over cards from a separate dragon deck. I've doubled the number of cards from 55 to 110 to accomodate essentially 2 playing decks - one for players and 1 for the dragon. I think the changes will make the game better - there's elements of both competition and cooperation that must be played by the players, but still retains the feel of the game that I want. Plus, I can create some new cards!
As I get the re-write fleshed out, and playtested a few times I'll keep everyone posted.
Thanks again for all your help and suggestions.
