Hello, I am currently working on a "pen & paper" rpg. Currently, my character sheets are setup to record all of a players stats including damage, level, xp, ... and gold. My question is, would you as a player prefer to have small tokens representing gold or is writing everything ok?

That would only work if the game comes to an end in one session.

If like most RPG's you play a story that takes longer than one sitting then how would to keep those tokens on the record sheet between games?

you're right

My game is a bit different than most, you would actually complete the game in one session. It takes about and hour or so with 4 players.

I say it depends on how your game playes and what your aim is with the game. A normal rpg is a pen and paper game. The main part is storytelling and acting. You very rarly use your money so having fysical money would not ad very much to the game feeling. But in a board game (a dungeon crawler) you use your money quit frequently, also there is a lot of difrent monsters, poitions, and other stuff that usualy are tokens. So here having fysical money makes sens. So I guess it depends on how your game plays. Also just having money tokens and then normal pen and paper I would say is a no no... Then the players will just ask why onley the money, why is no other stuff tokens.
