In case anyone didn't know, this year's UK Games Expo is taking place at the NEC, Birmingham, UK on 2nd to 4th June.
There is a lot there for game designers. For example:
- A large playtest zone run by Playtest UK, with volunteers to help you gather playtesters.
- The "Wyverns Lair", where a dozen designers get to publically pitch their games to a panel of publishers.
- A designer/publisher speed dating event.
- A designer/publisher social/networking event.
- Very many publishers, including several of the big European publishers, so you may be able to get pitch meetings arranged.
- Coffee.
So is anyone here going? I am!
- Rob
I can't say I blame you -- a transatlantic trip is a big deal. Unfortunately I missed your seminar last year as I was volunteering elsewhere at that time. Hopefully I'll be able to catch you some time in the future.
And to follow John's lead, what I am planning on playtesting:
Invaded, a game where you and your fellow players take the part of indigenous tribes in a relatively peaceful land which is invaded by a non-player colonial power that just wants to take control. This is a medium-ish-weight game of managing resources, trading, and occasionally fighting, and is roughly Euro-ish in style.
I will also have a load of other prototypes with me (Boogie Knights, My Name Is..., March Hares, Giftmas, etc.), but probably not using them in the formal playtesting slots.
