What are the most overproduced games out there?

This is just pure curiosity on my part, I know there are quite some elaborate board games with many beautifull figurines and cards and it tends to be something to my liking.

The most elaborately produced game I own is Fortune and Glory.
Detailed figurines for heroes and all enemies, even for temples.. beautifully sculpted gold and glory coins too, and a lot of artwork of actors in costumes on the cards.

But I'd really like to know which games go the furthest with this, I gues Runewars and Star Wars: Imperial assault go quite far with that, but maybe others go even further?

If you count specific

If you count specific editions, Catan 3D has got to be up there, especially in components to gameplay ratio.

"Cuthulhu Wars", Extremely overproduced with miniature that can measure around 8 inch high, which in the end does not have that much depth and it cost 200$ + expansions.

Definitely a waste of resources.

I wake up every morning and kick myself for not backing it at $100. What a game!

Cones of Dunshire would definitely have been the most overproduced had it funded.

In terms of consistent production value though, you really can't go wrong with Fantasy Flight.

Fantasy flight games are

Fantasy flight games are expansive and have a shit load of stuff, but most of the time, you could have not really have done otherwise, so it's not necessarily over produced.

I remember rune wars that had plastic mountains and they made a new edition in a smaller box with printed mountain instead. That could be a situation where they over produced it a bit. But most of the time the production is OK. Of course, they could have removed miniatures and use only tokens, but at that point, not sure there would be much a price difference, and it will be harder to play with.

Oh personally I do really

Oh personally I do really prefer the figurines and all in a boardgame.

To me it is always very disappointing if the boardgame box shows some beautifull immersive artwork, and the actual game depicted on the back of the box being very simple in its components.

The beauty of boardgames is that the "graphics" are timeless. Impressive figurines and artwork will always remain just that. Unless it breaks or gets torn or such, but I mean, you could buy the same game 50 years later brand new and it would still be equally impressive.

I suppose many chess sets are actually quite lavish, but then again its something often used for decoration purposes, getting a permanent spot on a table.

I got mine from greece, with soldiers I presumed to be greek when I was 13, but in time I realised they seem more Carthaginian.

My Father still has his old Stratego game as well from when he was a child. The pieces seem to be laquered stone or such, still in perfect condition. The board and box have been taped a bit, the box also shows beautifull napoleonic artwork.

It's this version.

Oh, that kind of "overproduced".

I read "overproduced" to mean "too many made; not enough sold" or "saturated the market without significant justification" (ie. marketed real well but low play-to-price value).

But "elaborately produced" clarified it. Thanks.

Imperial Assault, Kingdom

Imperial Assault, Kingdom Death, X-Wing, Armada...a few others have been named already.

The only thing more elaborate I can think of is probably Battletech. The amount of content, minis and lore you get in one package is actually quite a bargain IMO.

Once upon a time there was another game called Crimson Skies that had quite a collection and the content comparable to Batteltech as far as quality is concerned.
