This is just curiosity really, but I recently stumbled upon some free to download papercraft racing crafts - along similar lines to the Wipeout video game:

They seemed to cry out for a game, but are maybe an awkward size (~15cm / 6 inches long).
Do people know any mechanics that give the feeling of fast movement/large distances, but don't require an acre of space? I was thinking of something like the rolling road mechanic from GorkaMorka, or this newer one: Thunder Track.
