The White Elephant "in the room"... (lol)

I've been working on about three (3) different designs ... But I've kind of "toned down the volume" when it comes to "Monster Keep"! I have something novel... but is it novel ENOUGH??? So I decided to put that design "On-Hold" ... Just until my other games get into the market and see how those other "HOT" games do...

Obviously I'm downplaying all my numbers (which is to be expected) and I am favoring "Crystal Heroes" (CH) because it can be played with 2-Players or 4-Players which is why that design is occupying more of my time (because it allows for more players to play that game).

Part 2 of old interview via Dave Shapiro

In December 2012, Dave Shapiro contacted me to contribute to a book about Risk he was co-authoring.This took the form of answers to a series of questions. The book appeared recently, sans this material. This is part 2.

Responses to Dave Shapiro's Questions for a Risk Book, Part 1

In December 2012, Dave Shapiro contacted me to contribute to a book about Risk he was co-authoring.This took the form of answers to a series of questions. And it turned out to be about 5,000 words, 5% or more of the length of the average novel (must have been good questions!).

Ranking Sources of Information and Discussion about Game Design (long)

(This is a transcribed and much modified version of a screen cast from my “Game Design” Channel on YouTube.)

The number one way to learn to design games is to do it, to make games that you've designed, and this is why it's much easier to start with tabletop games, because you don't need to learn computer programming. Programming is a whole discipline, a whole job in itself. If you have to learn that before you work with games you are putting the cart before the horse.

Protospiel Online review

Earlier this year I attended a Protospiel Online with a complimentary press badge in exchange for a write-up of the experience, warts and all.

What is a Protospiel?

A video explainer

A Protospiel is a tabletop game prototype testing event. Designers act as both tester and host for players. Typically these are held in person in various sites across the United States and Canada. Though no one ‘owns’ Protospiel as a brand, and you can host your own version anywhere you like.

Duel Britannia design notes

(I've not been repeating my blog on blogspot here, for quite some time. Perhaps I'll catch up.)

Duel Britannia was released in late August 2020. This standalone game is included in a package with classic Britannia, an unchanged Britannia in the rules, but changed in the interface. It uses plastic figures for armies, for example.

Archon: Circlet of the Heavens — 2nd Look

Something "loosely" ... I am trying to use my knowledge of a RPS-5 into a bunch of RPS-3 (10 combinations). And on ties, the winning player uses the Point Value instead. The goal is to capture the "Strongest" card in the Deck (5 Points).

This is sort of a "revival" of another game which I call "Archon: Circlet of the Heavens".

Each Micro Deck is composed of 15 cards and in a way, you play the cards in your Deck as you see fit. There can be some Deck Construction but there are clear rules for "customization".

1. There are only five (5) types of cards.

New: Inkscape 1.0 Countersheets Extension 3.0 (CSV to cards, counters, etc)

Inkscape Countersheets Extension 3.0 is now available. Make cards, tiles, counters, standees, etc using Inkscape (WYSIWYG) plus spreadsheet data (CSV).

Now with support for Inkscape 1.0 and Python 3, and some other improvements like a way to faster change between different sheet layouts, distance to registration marks, fold line down center of sheet toggle for when printing both sides side-by-side.
