Hi all - new designer here - I'm looking at going to Protospiel in a few weeks and wanted to see if others here are planning on going. Sounds like it's a good time - any advice from returning alumni? What kind of prototypes are you all bringing? Drop some description so we can get pumped to try it out.
Who's headed to Protospiel?
It's a short drive over from Kalamazoo and David asked me to talk a bit about self-publishing, so I'll be there. Not sure if I am going the whole weekend, but I am looking forward to it.
I haven't been before, so I'm also interested to hear what everyone has to say about it!
It’s going to be a tight fit this year. We have had record pre-registration and the number of at door registrations is always hard to predict. Our Saturday should be a bit more crowded and noisy that usual because of this. We will do our best to accommodate everyone.
There is a decided focus on euro-games but we see a little bit of everything. I am bringing mostly family games this year since I have someone interested in them. I will also bring a very euro style pickup and deliver game with modular board.
Are you local, i.e. from Michigan?
What is this protospiel you speak of?
It's a couple of exits down, but cheaper. That's my plan. Bringing a party game, a light Euro, and hopefully a mid-heavy card game.
Wish I could go, but Austin, TX is far away and I just landed some contract work.
When I'm feeling foolish and overconfident, I contemplate asking Protospiel's organizers for permission to borrow their branding and start "Protospiel South", but I'm just not up to a task of that magnitude right now.
Have a great time at Protospiel, all!
I'm planning to attend for the first time. Pretty excited, can't wait.
I'll be calling myself "Matt Worden" that weekend though ... just to keep my Internet persona secret!! (oh wait!) ;-p

p.s. Thanks for the tip on the hotels.
I made my reservations this weekend.
I'll be coming up from Kentucky. I'm getting registered today, but it looks like the hotels are sold out (Best Western and Webbers). Anyone have any recommendations for other nearby hotels?
