Decisions, decisions...

I think I will be creating a board for my RTS board game. Should I make it four player? Check out my other blog post which has the mechanics of the game and let me know!

Hot spots

I have been reading your thread about creating an RTS and what you could consider instead of a traditional board is what I call *Hot spots*...

The idea is to have areas on the playing area where there are hexadecimal cards placed...

The reasoning is to give bonuses when a player's character finds himself on one of those hot spots. You could have like *clusters* of 3 or 4 hexes which alter the terrain. So say the area is empty that would be "grasslands" (no bonuses). In another area, you could have 2 hills and 1 mountain hexes. Each one of these could give different bonuses...

This could use a virtual-like board with hotspots and players could *configure* their clusters (or hot spots) before the game begins. You could have *rounds*, like a player who wins the 1st round does not win the game. The other player still has a chance to come back (best out of 3 - as an example).

You could used BOTH sides of the hex cards. This way the bonuses can be kept confidential until the player has to reveal it.

Anyhow just some things to consider... I know you originally did not want to have a *traditional* board - this is an alternative that gives board like properties but still is different from a traditional board which may not be *great* in the context of your RTS...

I really like that idea.

I really like that idea. Another problem I have is if I did make a board how big should the units be so that the board isn't to big?
