Hi,

I'm not sure if this is being posted in the right area, so if not, I apologize. Anyway, today I bought some old RPG games for real cheap at a garage sale and I was wondering if they are worth anything. Here is a list of what I got (all for anywhere from 50 cents to $1 a piece):

GURPS Basic Set (#6000), 2nd edition 1987, by Steve Jackson Games Universe (#3250), 1st edition? 1981, by SPI
Battletech (#1604), 2nd edition 1985, by fasa
Dungeons and Dragons Basic Set (#1001), 2nd edition 1978, by TSR
Dungeons and Dragons (#1001), 3rd printing 1978, by TSR
Top Secret (#7006), 2nd edition 1981. by TSR
Bushido (#6801), 1981, by Fantasy Games Unlimited Inc.
Shadowrun (#7901), 2nd edition 1992, by fasa
Denver City of Shadows Campaign for Shadowrun 2nd edition (#7212), 1994, by fassa
7th Sea Game Masters Guide, 1999?, by AEG

I have more than this, but too many to list. All of these except the City of Shadows) are the main rule books. And the others I have are as well. Back at the garage sale are more. Except they are all missions and supply books and the like. I'm planning on buying them tomorrow when they go on sale for $1 for a grocery sack full. So, what's the verdict? Did I get a good buy? Are any of these worth big bucks? Or any of them fun to play? Comments or advice of any kind would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This is probably more likely to get answered at an RPG group, like RPGNet or some such. The expertise here pertains more to designing games than appraising RPGs, but some people here may have this knowledge. I certainly don't, but I hope your find turns out to be valuable!

You might want to check out eBay. A quick search found varios hits. You'll not only see the average selling price, you can see how many people are bidding on them - just to give you idea of how high of demand there is and what people are willing to pay.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. And I did check e-bay Lar, but I wanted a better idea of what they were worth, as e-bay sometimes isn't just good enough. And thank you, jwarrend, for the website, I'll have to check it out. And do another sweep through e-bay. Thanks again.

You probably won't get a valuation of everything on any site... that's a lot of work, and ebay/trading can be fickle.

However, if you said "are there any gems here that might be worth a decent amount" or something similar, you'd probably get quite a few responses.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. And I did go to rpg.net, and they said that Bushido, Top Secret, and the D&D stuff were the best to play. As far as selling value goes, not much. The $5-$10 a piece value I had figured out for myself seems to be correct. Well, at least I got a bunch of rpg's to play. That'll help me in designing my own too.
