Or are there any resources, perhaps publications, that lists the sort of information he's talking about? I thought there was a journal with that sort of information in it.

There are lots of manufacturers. Depends on the category of the game, size of the print run, how much money you have. Got more specifics about what you are looking for?

Are you thinking of the Game & Toy Manufacturer's Guide? http://www.gtmguide.com/ It isn't done yet, but Ali Summers says she will be posting a lot of material on the site which may be useful.
