Is there a source ONLINE to get these cheap? I know you can buy these for retail prices from Chessex or game distributors for about $5.00 per 50+ stones.

Is there a cheaper source, however?

An online craft store? An online aquarium shop?

I'm looking for these in a few different colors.

Look for marbles, flat marbles, accent marbles, decorative marbles, glass, gems. I had a hard time too, to find the right words. Glass stones just doesn't cut it.

Here's a site that look nice:
http://crystalrivergems.com/products/glass/glassgems/pages/index.htm

You can find them on ebay too:

I ordered from Mega Marbles too, but from them directly. That crystalrivergems looks like an affiliate. The MegaMarbles.com site is not the same one I ordered from, it doesn't have much in terms of selection and there's no mention of bulk discounts.

I have a box of them here in three colors. Early post with a picture: http://www.bgdf.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=7247#7247

They are nice but the size and shape vary slightly and they seem to crack more easily than usual gaming stones.

Good luck.

I'm not sure about online, but I bought several bags of them at a craft store (Michael's). They were about $2 for a bag of about 100+ stones. They were for decorative flower displays. Hope that helps.

As SiskNY stated I would check out a local craft store (micheals or even A.C. Moore).

You can find so many options there for counters, etc. I tend to head to one of these places first.

Just to tell you,

I bought some for my game, and return them all. The colors were limited and the weight was incredible. When I pick them up, I could not even think about sending this game to a producer.

Plastic beads could be the way to go. I guess colors and weight is much better than glass.

Just my experience.

I agree and chances are the plastic pieces would be cheaper (at least in the long run).

Sources online for cheap plastic "stones"? I'd rather not use beads designed for threading (i.e., those with holes running through them).

Not sure what you consider cheap, but craft shops also sell wooden wheels that can be painted/dyed that look great. You may be selling beads short as there are many different shapes and sizes. My favorite for markers or tokens are 6-8 sided stars. They come in all types of colors, are easy to pick up and place, and don't roll off the table.
