I'm doing some research for a game I'm working on and I bought today a copy of the game Guesstures (a charades-like game produced by Hasbro). I have an older version of the game from the early '90's but wanted to see the updated 2nd version of the game. When I got home and opened it, and started reviewing the cards I realized it was all messed up. There are two decks of cards for the game and both have been printed incorrectly. Needless to say the error effects game play. The directions refer to the decks in the non-messed-up (correct) manner which makes it even more confusing for someone that's viewing the game for the first time.

Anybody ever come across a game that's been printed incorrectly?

The disturbing aspect of this Guesstures snaffooey is that there are likely thousands of copies of this incorrectly printed game circulating on shelves. Do you think Hasbro doesn't know about the misprint? And if they do/did, do you think they'd ever recall the misprinted games?

It happens !

Belive me chip. As hard as you try, sometimes things just happen. You can out in every imginable QA check, but in mass production, using human hands, it's going to happen. Sounds like your number came up :)

I would like to think the store/Hasbro would replace the game or give a refund without question.

Messed up game? Say it isn't so! :)

I can think of an example of a game that came with problems -- Succession: Intrigue in the Royal Court.

My game. :(

The great majority of copies seem to be great, but in a few the printed layer of the cardboard chips has peeled off. Also, one copy (that I know of) had two copies of the Taxman player board and no Wizard.

My solution, whenever I learn of a problem, is immediate replacement of the component and an apology to the customer. It's going to happen, even if you spend enough QA money to make the game unprofitable at any volume.

Hugs,
Chad

So I returned the game with no problem to the store where it was purchased. I also called afterwards the Jasbro customer service number listed on the Guesstures box just to give them a heads up in case they were unaware of the issue. They acknowledged the problem and verified that some games had been printed incorrectly. They obviously chose not to pull them from shelves (although maybe they couldn't track them). They did offer to send out a correct batch of cards which seemed to be the very least they should do. It was a moot point though, because I didn't have the game any longer. The only thing that still bugs me a bit though is if I hadn't opened the game myself and had given the game as a gift. That would have been a bit troublesome for the recipient.

Spielboy has an interesting look at over 40 gaming companies and how well their customer service departments responded to customer requests for missing pieces. Here's the link to the article. It's a pretty interesting read!
