Board Game Designers Group in Sydney, Australia

Hey everyone,

I'm just getting starting in designing games, and almost have some prototypes up and running. One problem I've found is a lack of people to playtest with face to face, as well as people to bounce ideas off, a community of designers, if you will. I've been reading a lot about various game designer's club, where designers can meet regularly and playtest each others creations, as well as offering advice and collaboration. A large inspiration was definitely the Board Designer's Guild of Utah and other groups.

I'm thinking that I would like to start up a similar group in Sydney, and see if we can encourage some good designs (and hopefully shome published games!) to come out from Australian designers. I was thinking we could meet once or twice a month somewhere close to the city (I can offer my home in Marrickville if needed :p).

So, if you live in Sydney and are interested in this idea, please let me know, either by responding to this thread or sending me a message. Hope to hear from some of you soon!

Greetings! Not from Australia....

Sorry if I got your hopes up...I thought I should tell you right away that I'm not from Australia. I just had a couple ideas I wanted to let you know about.

1.) We've got a local game store that has weekly game nights (Wednesdays). Although I have to confess I've never tried this, I'll bet the players would be willing to playtest a game if I brought it to them. So...perhaps you've got some game stores in Sydney that have a similar program? If not, I'm SURE you've got some game stores in the area. If they don't have a local game night, it might be a good idea to suggest it to them. It's a good idea...people get to play the games the store sells, so it's a win for them, too. Ours sells soda and candy, too. Convince them to hold one of these game nights once a week, or at least a couple times a month.

2.) The world is a much smaller place with the Internet. I see callouts all the time for game testers. I don't know how successful it's been, but it couldn't hurt. Just ask around...you might get lucky! :)
