Experienced BGDF folks-is there some "best practice" for how to use this place? It looks like there's lots of capability and categories. Should I put my ideas into "Game Journal", or "New game ideas" forum? Does it matter at all?

And, I don't know if this is a sensitive point, is there a good reason to spend time reading/posting at Board Game Geek versus this forum?

Hi, and welcome to the Board Game Designer's Forum!

Of course you're welcome to use this site any way you see fit, but here are some things that have helped me out...

* I found it helpful to post a list of my game ideas, either in a Game Journal or on my profile page.

* I used the Forums to post thoughts and ideas and playtest reports and things for my games. Posting questions in the forums can lead to some good discussions and could lead you to good answers for your game.

* The Game Design Showdown every month is fun and interesting for some people, and I have seen more than 1 showdown entry go on to become a real game - Brykovian's Jump Gate is available at TheGameCrafter.com and just won Games Magaziine's Traditional Game of the Year!

* The Game Journals are a great place to post game rules. I also used to get a lot of of ideas or just enjoyed reading other people's Game Journals as well.

I'm sure there are others who use this site differently, but I know those are all things I've personally used and enjoyed around here.

I look forward to reading some of your posts in the near future!
