Something new in the trading deck world from Richard Garfield and Justin Gary.

https://www.stoneblade.com/solforge?fbclid=IwAR3I0YI4aZcgAlb1dNbdk7IqNi_...

Might be something your into @Kristopher, due to the scanning of cards to play online with their Solforge game system.

Very interested

Keyforge is still one of my all time favorite games. I guess they like the "forging" aspect. I wonder what the theme is? Forged souls fighting against one another? Kind of like Smash Up?

This reminds me of Chaotic TCG

I don't know if they had that many cards... @Justin Gary has been around BGDF.com on a few occasions. It reminds me of KeyForge too... By Richard Garfield too. Of course a collaboration may prove to make something unique. It's just the ONLINE space was occupied by Chaotic FIRST. It was the FIRST TCG to allow you to BUY PACKS of cards (Boosters) and then COLLECT them ONLINE... Each card had a CODE and that CODE was unique. This was WAY BEFORE KeyForge and I'm guessing similar process in making UNIQUE Cards in KeyForge.

In any case Chaotic was ONLINE before EVERYONE else!

From just searching Google, I'm shocked

Google Solforge:

After around three years in early access, the free-to-play, digital collectible card game SolForge launched officially last year. Unfortunately, after just over seven months, it's been announced that SolForge is shutting down, an action that will take effect on January 31st.Jan 4, 2017

So, why did Facebook pop up something that has been shutdown since 2017?

Solforge was out in 2016?

But Facebook showed the ad. Wow, Facebook is getting dementia.

Sorry folks, I thought it was totally new from what the ad read from Facebook.

My search found this...

Quote:
What happened to Sol Forge?

SolForge was a free-to-play digital collectible card game by Stone Blade Entertainment. ... In December 2018, it was announced that Stone Blade had asked for the unofficial client to be shut down, and in January 2019 both the official server and the unofficial client were discontinued.

So it is obvious that this TGC is "dead". Why it's probably popping-up is because there was a 2020 KS Update posted. Here is the KS and the update in question:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ascensiontactics/solforge-digital-t...

July 8 2020: Introducing Ascension Tactics: Miniatures Deckbuilding Game

But the game is DEAD. GONE. OVER. Since 2 Years ago... Just someone trying to revive old dust and using SolForge as a way to market something else...

Well

"La sigh"

Well bummer. I tried , hoping to see some good light out of this to share. Lol.

Up and on to better outcomes for new games from bgdf and other venues/game publishers and self publishing route.

From what I see

From what I have seen on Facebook ADS, Sol Forge is making a come back.

Still looks interesting though.

Solforge conversation

Here is a copy pasted conversation about Solforge:

Trent : Did you buy solforge? I used to play it a lot and enjoyed it for quite some time. Does the game play like solforge did originally or has it changed?

Stone Blade Entertainment: We didn’t have to buy it, we made the original SolForge! It plays similarly to SolForge but is now a hybrid deck game where you combine 2 unique algorithmically generated decks and shuffle them together to play!

Trent: Stone Blade Entertainment interesting. I look forward to trying it out.

Hmm... Sound like they are talking about Digital...

From that conversation (albeit short), I get the impression that "Stone Blade Entertainment" is talking about a DIGITAL version of their game. I'm always "leery" about "digital" games because you never own anything.

Case point and example: what if they decide to END the "digital" platform?

That means if you spent money to buy cards and other digital assets, you will lose them FOREVER. If the game was like "Chaotic TCG" you had BOTH a physical card you could play with friends or at a FLGS PLUS each card had a unique CODE you could put in the digital platform.

Obviously if you look on the iNet, you will see that most cards have the code part HIDDEN. That's because people (Players) didn't want to lose their cards to the public Googling and such.

When "Chaotic TCG" shutdown their online "digital" platform ... That was almost the end of the game. The game lived on a bit longer as the Booster Packs were sold until the stock had run out and they also stopped producing more Boosters for purchase.

Anyhow, the bottom line is that PLAYERS who still have their CARDS TODAY, can still play with their friends who may have kept their own cards too!

That was a REAL accomplishment: make something playable for life. And still offer a "digital" platform to play ONLINE with more players. I think this is REALLY SMART because you don't LOSE your physical cards and you can play ONLINE with people from around the world.

You probably get the drift... I don't want to invest in something that will disappear in "x" amount of years. While I don't think Magic Arena will be going anytime soon... I hate that they can remove cards from play and like that you lose cards that you PAID good money to get. So I too will stick away from Magic Arena.

"Chaotic TCG" was the best of physical and digital implementation. Marrying BOTH genres... You should google it and have a look. I know it's DEAD now. But at some point in time, it was REAL HOT!

Note #1: If you Google "Chaotic TCG" and click on Images you will see a bunch of cards... Some cards are being sold for $900 USD for just ONE (1) CARD! Holy smokes!!! There is also a Video that someone made explaining the various cards here:

Thanks for sharing that LINK

It seems like it is JUST NEW! With that link, it's still 21 Days to go on that KS campaign. Although there is a Digital Play option (TableTop Simulator)... I don't think this is a "Digital"-focused offering. Seems like they are talking about cards and tournaments (Gen Con, PAX, etc.) so this seems like they are going in the right direction!

Pretty neat if you ask me.

"Think like a game designer"

"Think like a game designer" the podcast from Justin Gary had a recent episode devoted entirely to their new game. From the episode it sounded like a smashup mechanic with MTG to bring as close as they can the original digital solforge experience. I am skeptical of the algorithmic generation. It would need to be so constrained as to not really feel random
