Hero Realms: What do you think?

Joe Pilkus (@The Professor) brought up the notion of a game designed by White Wizard Games called "Hero Realms". It is a FANTASY version of the more popular Sci Fi "Star Realms" another Deck-Builder on the market.

Now while "TradeWorlds" is radically different than "Star Realms", I find myself interested in this newest addition of the White Wizard Game's catalog. "Star Realms" is supposed to be a quick, 30 to 45 minute game. TradeWorlds is longer and maybe on average closer to 60 minutes in the case of a two (2) player game. But when players duke it out... it could go a bit longer, since defeating an opponent tends to take more time than the Scenario's "objective".

Anyways I already OWN "Epic" and have purchased "Hero Realms"... I can't wait to have a look at the game and see how it plays.

Any one have comments/feedback or answers concerning the game?! Feel free to reply.

Cheers.

I've watched a couple videos and...

Seems like some people (gamers) were saying "Hero Realms" is BETTER than the original game "Star Realms"!!! Of course other people are saying that is pure blasphemy since "Star Realms" is the original game in their line-up and the "Grand-daddy" of the Deck-Building of the Sci-Fi persuasion.

What do you think? Have you played EITHER of these games?? Let us know in the comments below!!!

Anyone even SEE this game???

Just a little "bump"... Has anyone even seen the game? I know I was "disappointed" with EPIC (The Card Game). I spent over $20.00 to buy two packs of the game. The artwork is NICE... But the game doesn't interest me... It's just a two (2) person duel. Yeah you can play 4 people with 2 decks... IDK - I was not impressed with the CORE game.

"Hero Realms" looks different... And can be a quick 30 minute game...

Got my copy of the game TODAY!

Well it looks like Hero Realms is pretty interesting! It seems simple enough -- but I can't say what the strategy is for the game... I have already 3 questions about certain cards just by looking through half the deck.

Not sure I would enjoy "Star Realms"... "TradeWorlds" is closer to my own preferences... I actually enjoy demo-ing and playing the game (win or lose). And since both "Star Realms" and "TradeWorlds" are Sci-Fi "Space-themed" combat games, I have a fondness for the later game. I'm just not impressed with "Star Realms" as much as I like "Hero Realms"!

Anyways hoping to get it to the table some time soon ... so I can give this game a real try!

Cheers.

What they've done is pretty nice

Yellow = Healing bonuses which help after being dealt a ton of damage.
Blue = Extra gold for purchasing cards from the market.
Red = Sacrificing cards which is like "deck-thinning".
Green = Drawing or discarding cards.

That seems to be the general feel for the Four (4) Factions.

In addition some cards allow you to earn more gold and still others are for combat and dealing damage to your opponent's Champions or Hero.

Some Champions are "Guard" which means you MUST defeat them first before attacking the opposing Hero. Nothing new ... but it seems cool to be wrapped up in the format that it currently occupies!

Anyone else try this game or have heard about it too???

Just stumbled upon this old

Just stumbled upon this old thread. Hero Realms is a good game and this is worth at least one comment. :)

I think I prefer Star Realms. HR can go on a bit too long with some very good healing cards.

Champion decks is what really makes the game interesting imo. A lot of replayability trying the different decks against each other (and with 3+ players).

There is now also a coop campaign expansion and boss decks. No experience yet with either.

I have the star realm app

I have the star realm app (paid version) and I have Epic as card game, but did not have much chance to play.

Now Hero Realm is a littlerally a clone of star realm with little rule changes. The only rule change I found is that the first player draw 3 instead of 5 cards and they fixed it it the Star Realm app. Else the major changes besides the theme is the card design.

I had a few design issue with star realms, not sure I remember it all:

I disliked the common purchase pool and prefer player specific pool like rune age but that is just a preference.

The red faction was too strong since destroying cards in deck was very powerful. Was fixed in Colony Wars by making it more expensive.

Some cards are under or over powered according to it's cost.

Else I suggested having ships which could replace other ships in your deck by giving a rebate.

Vipers are not very useful too compared to scout. I suggested powering them up or adding python bombers that would do 2 damage and 2 authority as an alternative to the explorer.

The game can escalate drastically in damage, so you get a snowballing effects in the game.

I almost preferred the app because each unique scenario gave an interesting twist to the game by changing rules or giving different starting deck and health. Wish it could be usable in the real game.

It's also atype of game that forces you to focus in one thing only to be efficient. You cannot get a bit of this and a bit of that like in other card games.

---------------------------------------------------

As for epic, I liked the idea of overpowerness that gives a Master of Magic type of feeling to it. I still think there could be balance issues but I have not played enough to know.

The only issue was with the non-intuitive keywords that you have to know or check out in the rule book all the time.
