Being a fantasy game there has to be magic. There was originally nine characters to choose from, four combat, five magic. I decided to reduce the number of magic based characters to four (both to even things out, and add the opportunity for games expansion). Still the biggest single challenge was getting the magic balanced. Like most fantasy settings magic users start out weak, and get stronger in the end. This is a premise that I am happy with, I was even happy with the spells that I created, the balance was initially terrible. Even after changing the spells I over compensated and through the game into more disarray. This was bought home by a player who had just the right combination of spells and made them invulnerable. Luckily the same player is also my greatest critique, so with a few suggestions we rebalanced.
So far so good, we still make a few minor tweaks here and there but all in all they appear to be going well. But we have still not tested all the spells.
