This is not an actual image for my game. I'm using this to sort of visualize how my board could be as I contemplate ideas for "The Traveler".

hmmm

im a new member hear as well and im searching for some board making software to. mine is probibly less complex because all i need is a flat grid like layout with some other things just to get me a visual or a playibal version of a game im making. my game is a global domination styl game that includs mony, souldurs, buildings, and nukes. if i find any map making things ill try an post back.

As for the map, I'm thinking to not have it too big. I'm visualizing a normal sized map game board with coordinance. Many many decks of cards placed around all four corners of the board. These may somehow corespond to the coordinance of the location that the deck belongs to. Lets say there was a little deck for the park downtown. It may have say 25-50 cards give or take. These all would be different scenes of that location that you would encounter.

I'm thinking I should get out a large piece of paper and just start brainstorming locations and ploting them and rough mapping them.

I'm also thinking about taking a fractal aproach, and each major location being a node.

map software

Hi,

I am new to this BGDF and quite excited about the wealth of information I am finding here.
I have in mind a game that requires me to design a map of a country (a bit of terrain and road system). Do you know what software to use to do that?
how did you create this nice city map?

Thank you

Okay, here's the method I am following for myself. It's no the only way but I hope it helps. Go to Yahoo images, and seach city maps. Print out the maps you like..several of them. Lay them all out on a table or wall. Gaze at them and pick your favorites. Then on a piece of paper scetch out your map. Based on features or styles you find on the maps you chose that you like, decide how to render your map with that in mind so that you give your players what they need to know and keep it simple..what that ned to know and no more.

Once you have you map sketched out, then go to a program and work on renduring it.
My software isn't the best. I don't own photoshop or anything fancy like that. I own fractal mapper, and am going to see if I can get better results than I have acheaved so far, once I at least know what my map looks like.

Mapping software for Games

I use Profantasy's Campaign Cartographer's City Designer for City maps (its an expansion to Campaign Cartographer).

I didn't create this map at all. I googled it. It won't even be used in my game. I uploaded this as a referance point for me to start working out how my board should be.

Actually, I'm looking for software as well. I will post any information I find that may help. Wish I could answer you. We both have the same question. I find stuff on google, but am not sure whish software to invest or what I should use.

I found this screen shot of a

I found this screen shot of a city map created by Fractal mapper:

Seeing this, I realize that I haven't maximized my results with the program. I can probably work up a perfectly find map for my proto mock up for testing. I'le work with the program more.
