Colors
Idea seems interesting - though if there were troop movement I'd have a feeling it would get confusing.
I suggest more colors (or outline types, or shapes, or logos) to help the eye differentiate.
ie Mortars could be an explosion and howizer a gun with ammo casings flying out of it.
It's pretty basic really
As you may have figured by now, I'm no graphics designer, but I do design game mechanics. That is why the board is so plain. It is ment to be customized to the proper theme. (You should look at the cards, they look scary simple!) Mortar and howitzer ranges actually mean the "range" of each type of perimeter artillery, not "range" as field (sorry, english is not my first language).
there is no movement, it is a placement mechanic. the thing is you KNOW your opponent has that nasty machine gun nest waiting for you, but you don't know where!! you'll only find out at point blank range!! but this leads to some interesting tactial options: for example, the "diversion attack": if he uses his nest in you first attack (diversion) you can advance next where you REALLY want to go with your commandos (too bad for that conscripts you sent as cannon fodder). I invite you to check the blog post to get a full idea of the project. you have a full print and play version easily set for 2 players.
Thanks for your feedback. Keep thinking!
