So the tile is a "Hexagon" like in Catan...
The middle is the "Resource" it produces so 1 Banana (= 1 Food).
To produce that 1 Banana, it requires 2 Workers (On the middle bottom).
To buy this plantation tile it costs 1 Gold (On the top left).
And lastly in the Right-Hand Side (RHS), there could be some TRADE resources you could use instead of Gold... To trade for the "IMPROVEMENT".
Something like that as a "concept"... You can refine the concept. This is just an example I wanted to illustrate.
Cheers!

More about "Trading"
Just like in "San Juan", you have different TYPES of "improvements". So maybe since the "plantations" only produce food (Bananas), you can't TRADE for this since it's one of the "core" resources. But you could have a MARKET on Fiji which changes and says that 3 Bananas = 1 Gold (for example).
So if you produced 3 Bananas and SOLD them for 1 Gold... You could BUY an extra "plantation" (1 Gold) to produce more food (Bananas)...
The idea is to define what are going to be your resources:
Sometime the CATEGORY (Food, Material, Riches) is used to TRADE for another improvement.
Sometimes it's a SPECIFIC "Resource" (like Bananas or Pearls).
That could add HUGE variability to the game... Just some thoughts on the matter!
