V For Victory!: Early design

Recently *waiting* for news about "Tradewars - Homeworld" had got me to work on "M.I.A." (Working title). And so I had been inspired to create a NEW "mash-up" which would be based on these three (3) games:

  1. Pandemic
  2. Risk
  3. Clue

These are VERY POPULAR game titles and mostly everyone knows the last two (2) and Pandemic is known to most board gamers (with 36781 votes on BGG: www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/30549/pandemic).

Legendary Souls: About the Software

I have been reading up on AndEngine and see all the awesome games people design. Personally I have a background in Software Systems. I'm good coding with things like databases and servers. So on this Android project, I am stretching my experience - A LOT!

DS Video game now Android project

Although this is NOT a Video game forum, I simply wanted to share some of my discuss what has been going on for those wondering where "Tradewars - Homeworld" is?!

"Tradewars - Homeworld" is being reviewed by a Publisher, it has almost been 1 year (in review). We really want to make a deal with a publisher however we realize that all efforts need to come to a conclusion and feel that 1 year to wait for a response is NOT unreasonable.

Monster Keep - Baiting the Keep

I have a pretty good idea on how the "bait" mechanic will work. It's pretty simple and it goes something like this:

  • Each Hero has a Dexterity which gives him the number of rooms he can move through on his turn.
  • If a NEW tile needs to be placed in order to move, the Hero must roll the custom dice: 3x blank, 1 Event, 1 Encounter and 1 Relic.
  • If the roll is NOT a blank, the Hero must STOP in that room - even if he still has remaining moves.

The two (2) types of occurrences each have a "bait" meaning also:

Monster Keep - New direction

So I have taken some time to think more about "Monster Keep".

Previously I had been working on a "Dungeon-Crawler" and somehow that idea has got me thinking about transforming "Monster Keep"!

I know this is nothing like the game I have blogged about (which was a card game about bidding and bluffing).

But with a name like "Monster Keep", it just oozes with the potential for a deep, dark dungeon-crawl experience that would be like no other.

Tradewars - Homeworld: Future Expansion

So I know there is a thread talking about "expansion" (http://www.bgdf.com/node/14336) and it directly related to "Tradewars - Homeworld". I want to *open* up the game's expansion capabilities by offering designers the opportunity to submit expansion games (to be published by my Publisher).

Tradewars - Homeworld: Towards success

Well I have been re-thinking everything that I have been working on based on a professional opinion. Although my game may pass the Publisher's Blind Playtesting and they may like the game, my art budget may not be so well received... :(

So I decided to go back to the drawing board and try to devise new strategies to be able to produce "Tradewars - Homeworld". After taking a good look at my options, I have concluded that a Kickstarter for the game is possible...

Tradewars - Homeworld: Stories to be told

It's kind of funny that I'm designing a game and thinking about what to do with another! My current Work-In-Progress (WIP) is nearly complete: I will be having a publisher blind test the game given our rulebook.

However on the side, I have been thinking about Quest AC and how I wanted the game to be more about "story-telling".

The funny part is how my WIP has begun to generate the kind of results that I wanted my other game (Quest) to have...

Tradewars - Homeworld: Rulebook

Sample Tactic card

Well our rulebook is starting to be 100% complete as the game reaches the crux of solidity. I will be updating the rulebook this weekend with three (3) outstanding issues:

  1. Trade starships can defend a Homeworld.
  2. The use of Tactic cards instead of Starship Abilities.
  3. Allowing players to discard cards from their hand.

As we go through the list of issues, we currently only have ONE (1) issue left to think about:

  • Allowing players to discard starships.

Tradewars - Homeworld: Publication (3x)

Well I have finally received news from the Publisher we had contacted for "Tradewars - Homeworld" (WIP). It was good to receive some news about our rulebook and artwork. After four (4) months, we received excellent feedback:

-They are interested in the game and want to play prototypes!

They also said that our preliminary artwork was "Great"... Of course we are happy that this particular Publisher is interested mainly because they deal with Card games.

Our game is also a Card game with dice and wooden parts. The game has a Player mat but NO board.
