Art source for Ray Caster style of video game, or suggestion on how to make my own

I know it's a bit off forum, because it's more for video game than board game, but it's still art and graphic design which could be used in board games.

As some of you might know, I was working on a Wizardry video game, and I was using hexen and the original wizardry games as a source of assets.

Now I want to make the game as much copyright independent as possible. So I found davegh.com for a source of texture. but one thing I have a hard time finding is objects, like: pots, barrels, poles, columns, statues, round table, torch, junk, corpse, chest, etc. They are picture that will always be seen from the front side.

I took most of those pictures from hexen and a few from wizardry. But I would like to have a completely new and open source set of pictures.

The problem is that it's very hard to find. There are many video game assets websites, but they mostly aim at side scrollers, top scroller or other block style games.

----------------------------------------------

One thing I thought is that I could take regular pictures of objects I need, cut around it and add a oil point filter over them. It should be relatively fast to do depending on the shape of the object. Since it's for a free open source game, it does not have to be super quality.

Any other suggestion?

Learn Blender. For your needs

Learn Blender. For your needs you can also find lots of open objects, and by casting them yourself you can maintain consistent angle of lighting, etc.

Tons of tutorials on Youtube.

In spirit with your game...

Certain objects like a pot, corpse, barrels, chest should sometimes contain "treasure". Like maybe in a pot or corpse you can find a few "gold coins". So you might need a "broken pot" or an "open barrel" and even an "open chest"... version of those art assets.

Or like a KEY to a door could be hidden in a corpse, and you need to search the body to find it!

Things like that! Cheers...

Note: @Corsaire's suggestion of searching for "blender 3d pot" has resulted in several nice looking 3D pots with various videos on how to create them. It might also help to generate more 3D objects like you need...

I was looking more at 2d objects. But sure if there are more 3d objects, I could take a 2D picture of a 3D object.

I understand your point, but for the needs I have, I will not go that far. Having localised objects in the maze is already a huge improvement to the original game I am remaking.

Here is an example I made

Here is an example I made with gimp with 2 different filter. I did not had to cut the image, it was already on a translucent background. During the removal of the alpha layer, I made it on a black background so that I would get some sort of black edge around the picture. The fuchsia color is the transparent color in the game since there is no alpha.

So far, Van Gogh looks better
