We are just about 3 weeks out from GenCon 2015 - is anyone else going to GenCon this year?
GenCon 2015 - Is anyone going?
I'll be going. It will be my first time and I've never been to Indianapolis before. I'm kinda nervous and excited at the same time.
I'll be there! Thurs-Sun. Is there an official meetup for folks from this site?
The crew from The Game Crafter will be there and we are sponsoring 2 indie game designer meetups. You're all welcome to join us.
Game Night - https://www.gencon.com/events/71160
I wanted to go, but booths filled up all the way back before Feb. Can't afford to go as an attendee.
I'll be there, probably splitting my time helping a friend with sessions of his new game and running my recurring LARP, "Pedestrian: The Mugging," out back where the vendors unload their trucks. It doesn't cost anything to play but make sure you have at least $100 in your wallet.
If anyone needs suggestions for what to do around town, feel free to hit me up. I live a couple hours south and am familiar with Indianapolis.
I do want to recommend two locations for dining:
http://www.rathskeller.com/
Great German food, excellent bar, and they'll probably have the beer garden open with live entertainment that weekend.
http://www.shapiros.com/
Kosher-style food (but not actually kosher). You can find them at the airport and downtown. Roast beef so soft, it's like biting through butter, top-notch bagels, or try the tongue sandwich. Probably not a big deal if you have a Jewish deli back home, but this is hands-down the best I've found in Indiana.
I'll be there Showing off my new game Star trek: Five-Year Mission. http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/178613/star-trek-five-year-mission
I'll be doing a 3 hour signing with Marina Sirtis on Saturday and the game will be one of the Charity events. We have 42 people signed up to play for the honor of playing with the designer!

Unfortunately I won't have time to meetup with anyone but if you want to say hi drop by the Mayfair booth.
You had me at Marina...you lucky, lucky man. Now if I can just get her and Gates McFadden to join me in a yoga class, my teenage dream can come true.
I've been looking around and I've tried to create an "event" for my upcoming game, do I have to register with GenCon to demo my game or can I just plop myself on a table, setup my sign and just ask people to try my game?
Anyone else have experience with this?
I haven't been to GenCon, but I help run academic conventions, and generally if you haven't paid or registered to run something, you aren't supposed to run something. If you google "Gencon rules and faq" you'll find lots of stuff about how to submit events (done in Jan or Feb, looks like).
Here's the page that seems most relevant from a quick glance:

I honestly don't know if there's a wildcat culture or not, but I suspect it's a bad idea. Here's something from the policies:
"Advertising
There is no flyering, postering or showbilling of any kind in or around any of the convention grounds, including the hotels. If caught, you may be asked to leave the convention and have your badge revoked, without refund."
I suspect if you put up a sign for an unregistered event, you're postering.
I look forward to hearing from others who have attended what the con atmosphere is like and if this would be welcome.

Giving this a little bump since we are 1 week out...
Thanks for all the suggestions and notifications of hosted events - I'll hit as many as I can!
