I can't show you the board, I can't tell you the name.
It's awesome, original, fun! (also gripping)
Just reading the rules is far better than tripping!
(It's four hundred dollars, plus extra for shipping)
It's patented, copyright, (tm) and (c)
of a registered company (OK, just me),
To play it's to love it. You can't though - I fear
if I give you the details you'll steal the idea.
My fellow designers, please look at my game.
Is this a joke?
And we if it is, we have enough spam, please resist!
*applauds*
Well done, hilarious, and oh-so-true!
HA! made my day .. I promise to post my "one off" patented board game once the play testers give it back.
ps.
Apeloverage I forgot to ask if I could steal your "idea" and stick it on my easel.

What nerve! This is a thinly veiled rip-off of the game that I didn’t post details about.
You will be hearing from my lawyer.

We hope that it brings you good fortune and fame.
You may want to check on your price point, although...
A retail price that's that high may sell slow.
(Lower MSRP helps the money to flow.)
Had you talked to us earlier, you would've saved cash,

1000 THUMBS UP!
So is there really that little to discuss about game design that we are now enjoying the concept of a joke post....
sad sad day, I wish I was so lucky to have free time to waste... if I did I would actually have some games designed!!!
We all need a laugh now and then to keep in the right spirit, after all aren’t games meant to be fun?
And likewise
All play and no work makes Johnny a jerk.
Personally I put in long hours at both.
Edit: I guess that means im dull and a jerk.
Hello,
I am new to this site and am not very internet savvy.
I was wondering if game-testers do typically steal ideas if they have the ability? I am creating a board game and have it up to a few self game tests but it has become boring because it eliminates the entropy of the game. ie. I know what the other player is holding because, alas, I am the other player.
So, I am at the point where I need some game testers. I have had a critical friend look at it and he is a mild gamer and he likes it and sees potential.
My goal is to be the Klaus Teuber of North America. He is the Settlers of Catan creator. I know this is lofty but why climb a shrub when I can go climb a white pine.
So I guess my question is - should game testers be close friends and work outwards? Are they to be trusted? Should I patent my game previous to any outside input? How would you take the game to market?
To satisify some curiousity as to the board game. I took what I thought were the best eliminates of European style games and North American style games and put them into an extravagant yet simple board game. It is a four player game but I am looking for ways to develop 2/3/5/6 player game kits.
Any advice for me to ponder on would be greatly appreciated,
LachSTAR

"2) Take a moment and write up a short, simply worded list of what makes your game fun and (more importantly) certain to sell. You'll want this when you're pitching your game to publisher/distributors. Telling a publisher that everyone who's played it thinks its fun isn't specific enough – it's not objective. Figure out what it is that makes your game engaging, exciting, humorous, or otherwise fun, then write that down. Ideally, your sales pitch will be short and to the point."
I will take this advice and follow some of the points that you mentioned to Bigins. Don't worry Bigins, I have no sports theme involved. Also, I would like to say that I agree with the plagarize statement - it seems that I was inspired by numerous games but there is a fundamental difference in gameplay, strategy, idea, and board that separate mine from others. I, as all creators, believe mine is better.
I will continue to read posts and usurp useful knowledge.
I live in Ottawa, ON - if any one knows of any help I could get there.
Cheers,

LachSTAR,
I think you have more chance of finding *playtesters than a board game designer stealing your idea.
*playtester: mythological creature said to test the game creation of others for the betterment of all gamers.
Shazzaz,
I am not sure I completely understand the second point.
The first one means you suspect that I will run into good willed and intentioned play-testers.
The second means that play-testers are hard to find?
Thank you for the quickness of your post,
LachSTAR
not exactly.
You won't run into any playtesters unless they are already known to you. No boardgamer will steal your idea.
quick answer = boredom. I do educational boards, not exactly games and my playtesters are teachers so I could be very wrong in my opinion.
Thank you for your comments. I guess I will have to solicite my friends to play. Good luck with your educational games. I will likely be on these boards a little more frequently now that I have built up the courage to pursue my game.
One last question, I'll check it in the morning, what are the costs involved with setting up a board game.
120 cards, a board (of plastic or usual board), 120 'chits' representing money, and 4 boards with little graphics, oh and a dice.
Appreciatively,
Lachstar
** and in your first post in response, was that a crack at that famous card game I am now forgetting? I never played it though.
no comment on costs - it is too variable depending on location.
Where do I order?
Go to Fandom II on Laurier Avenue West and ask them if they know of any groups that play the category of game you are planning on testing. Get in with a group, make friends, and take the most trustworthy of the bunch in as playtesters.
(It's right across from the Mariott Residence)
I think I will test that idea out. If anything it gets me involved with people who like to play board games, which are people that i could grow accustomed too. Thank you.
It wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, just a gentle joke about how people are worried about their idea being stolen.
