Dropping a Hello to everyone.
Somewhat new, have lurked a bit.
Been working on a Slay the Spire/Roguelike inspired solo game over the pandemic, and may be posting about that some. Have some other stuff I've worked on over the years.
Can possibly be sighted at the midwest Protospiels.
Hello Hello
Rogue-like is something that intrigues me too! Dungeon Drop renewed my Design instincts in wanting to do something in this vein. And funny enough that working with another designer (@Westmass) on some Fantasy and/or Dungeon-Crawler-esque type of game just gave me some more inspiration on a neat little "Combat System" that could work in a coopetive game... Think fast-paced action dice rolling.
I know that dice are not for everyone... Plus custom dice are hard to work with when designing prototypes. I know there are alternatives (meaning ways to design custom dice with stickers and such...) but it all feels a bit "prohibitive".
Anyways I hope you become a regular and that you visit us frequently!
Feel free to read-up on some of the other threads and get involved with the other Game Designers!
Cheers.
Welcome aboard!
I've done some rogue-like myself, but digitally, never as a boardgame. I'll be interested to see what you come up with!
Nothin' wrong with a little dungeon exploration and surprises round every corner. Took me over 20 hours of attempts, but I finally completed a run in Slay the Spire the other day... :D
Regarding theme choices: would you say your rogue-like is leaning towards more of a fantasy or a sci-fi setting? Or maybe a bit of both? I'm always curious to see what others are thinking about with the world in which their games take place.
Looking forward to when you start sharing your design efforts and your input on discussions, jweaves.
Looking forward to what designs you like to share.
I suppose it could easily be a dungeon (weapons and spells), but I went with sci-fi (weapons and tech) .. currently the theme is stopping a bad civilization from spreading through the galaxy. Show up at the edge of their system with your standard ship, find out what direction they're headed, and hunt them down, from the tail of the fleet to the head (final boss). Gain a new card after each round as you progress through the encounter deck.
Slay the Spire is definitely an inspiration (Dungeon Tales on Android is the one I actually play, but the mechanisms are near the same from what I can tell).
