Design Contests

This forum has been created for the sole purpose of listing game design contests in a central location.

Game Design Contest: OBSCURE FORCES

The game development studio „Effective Evolutions“ and the hobby game retailer „Spiele-Offensive.de“ unite in order to bring you the international game design contest „Obscure Forces“. The Kickstarter campaign for the Lovecraft-inspired, Berlin-based survival horror game U55-END OF THE LINE may be over but that does not stop us from bringing you gamemakers another contest!

Re: New Game Competition with $500 prize!

Thanks to (SedjTroll?) for locking the thread. It was getting unproductive. You might want to pre-emptively lock this one, too, but for people who want more information (and to follow the Q & A) the same thread is going on at:

Thanks to everyone who has entered so far. Some good ideas coming in! We're excited!

The Council of Excited Elders

New Game Competition with $500 prize!

Attention tabletop gamers, geeks, nerds and lovers of sci-fi!

Art thou desirious of filthy lucre and fame? Canst thou craft a wondrous and bedazzling, never-before-seen game of dice? Durst thou tax thy mental capacity in this Herculean endeavor? If so, we challenge thee to complete this arduous quest:

Create an interactive game that uses characters from outer space as its pieces. Evil forces have turned these poor, wretched souls into cubes (dice) and left them with just six basic emotions (displayed on sides of the dice) which you must utilize for scoring.

Game design competitions

Does anyone know of any game design competitions at conventions? Thanks.

The Mystique Game Design Contest

The Mystique deck

Hi, all.

The Mystique Game Design Contest has just begun; a competition to design the best games for The Mystique Deck:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/141291/the-mystique-deck

The aim of the The Mystique Game Design Contest is to produce the best set of games that human designers can invent for The Mystique Deck. These games might then be used in a future AI experiment to see whether even better games can be found by automated means. We're planning to run such experiment, but we still don't know if this will be possible.

You make the Card!!

Fellow game designers, dear friends of fantasy card games!

My game "Elemental Clash: The Master Set" will hit Kickstarter in about a month's time.
Please have a look at some of the cards in my visual card spoiler over at

You will find a lot of other stuff, like game rules or nice desktop wallpapers there as well.

Now what this post is actually about:

Ludopolis Contest

[quote=Arkiris]Dear board game designers,

Ludopolis Contest is back in 2013! Every person aged 18 or more may enter the contest, regardless of his nationality or having or not any game published. Only unpublished games will be admitted, and each designer can send up to 3 games. Games that have entered the previous edition of the contest are eligible only if significant changes in the rules have been made. Only board games will be accepted. Preferably, the contest is seeking for family and fast games. So, it is not recommended to send games that exceed 75 minutes (approx.) of game play. Participation is free.

Game Crafter Contests

We at The Game Crafter hold game design contests several times per year with cash and other prizes. Our latest contest was a co-op design challenge, which just ended. We should be announcing another one in the next few weeks.

We are not a one stop shop for all the contests out there however. We only post our own. Just wanted to answer the second half of your question about what other contests were out there.
